Peter D. Haytaian serves as executive vice president and president of the Government Business Division for Anthem, Inc. As a member of the company’s executive leadership team, he is responsible for all operations related to Medicaid, Medicare, and Federal Government Solutions, including National Government Services and the Federal Employee Program. Mr. Haytaian and his team have Profit & Loss responsibility for more than 9 million medical members.
Through Anthem’s acquisition of Amerigroup Corporation in December 2012, Mr. Haytaian joined the company as president of Anthem’s Medicaid business. In this capacity, he led Medicaid operations in 20 states, working to ensure high quality care and greater access to health care for members. Prior to the acquisition, Mr. Haytaian held a number of senior leadership positions with Amerigroup, including chief executive officer of the North Region for Medicaid and head of the company’s Medicare Advantage business.
Mr. Haytaian is a health care industry leader with more than 20 years of experience managing Medicare and Medicaid programs. Previously, Mr. Haytaian held a variety of leadership roles at Oxford Health Plans Inc., where he oversaw the company’s government-sponsored lines of business, including the federal Medicare+Choice program and individual commercial products. He also was involved in evaluating and implementing commercial expansion opportunities for the company. Prior to joining Oxford, Mr. Haytaian served as a regulatory attorney and lobbyist on health care and election law issues at the law firm of Graham, Curtin and Sheridan.
Mr. Haytaian earned his Bachelor of Science in marketing and communications from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, and his law degree from St. John’s University School of Law.
